Bio-identical Hormone Pellets are small pellets that secrete steady levels of hormones over 3-6 months.  These are inserted in a quick office procedure using numbing medication.

Hormone pellets may contain testosterone or estrogen.  These dissolve fully and do not require removal.  The dosing can be tailored to each individuals needs

After testing your hormone levels and reviewing your symptoms your clinician will determine the appropriate medication and dose for insertion.  Then, after all questions are fully answered and the consent form is reviewed and signed you will lay down on a procedure table.  Then, the insertion site will be identified and marked.  In most cases this is the upper-outer aspect of the buttocks.

Then, after the skin is sterilized, numbing medication will be applied.  Once the area is numbed, a small incision about 1/4 inch is made.  Then, using a special device called a trochar the pellets are inserted into the subcutaneous tissue but not into the muscle

After the insertion the area is cleansed and steri-strips are applied to close the wound, no sutures are needed.  In most cases a non-stick dressing will be applied over the area.  You may shower 12-24 hours after insertion but should not immerse a bathtub, hot tub, or pool/lake/river.  A bandaid may be needed over the area for a few days.  A small amount of bruising is normal.
